Jamie U. Hyun
Founder & CEO
Jamie U. Hyun founded The Forgotten Koreans with a simple but powerful belief: no community's history should be forgotten. Inspired by conversations with her father, Honorable Judge James T. Hyun, she became passionate about preserving the stories of Koreans who settled in Mexico and ensuring that their legacy continues to be recognized for generations to come.
At just 18 years old, Jamie established The Forgotten Koreans as an Illinois nonprofit in March 2021. Since then, she has led the organization's efforts to preserve history, strengthen cultural connections, and support Korean descendant communities through meaningful partnerships and community-driven initiatives.
Jamie works closely with local leaders and organizations in Mérida, Mexico, helping ensure that the organization's programs and resources create lasting, positive impact where they are needed most. Her vision is to build bridges between generations and countries while honoring the resilience, sacrifices, and contributions of the forgotten Korean diaspora.
Through compassion, collaboration, and a commitment to service, Jamie continues to lead The Forgotten Koreans with the belief that remembering the past is essential to building a stronger future.
Sally Khosbayar
Chief Operating Officer
Sally Khosbayar serves as the Chief Operating Officer of The Forgotten Koreans, where she oversees the organization's day-to-day operations and helps bring its mission to life through creative leadership and community engagement.
As a paralegal with a passion for service and innovation, Sally plays a key role in developing outreach initiatives, strengthening community partnerships, and finding new ways to share the stories of the forgotten Korean diaspora.
Sally is dedicated to expanding the organization's reach through creative campaigns, strategic collaborations, and meaningful community involvement. She believes that preserving history requires not only honoring the past but also engaging new generations through fresh ideas and modern storytelling.

James T. Hyun brings a lifetime of leadership, public service, and community advocacy to The Forgotten Koreans. As our advisor, he provides strategic guidance and supports the organization's mission to preserve the history, celebrate the legacy, and strengthen the future of Korean descendant communities in Mexico.
The inspiration for The Forgotten Koreans began through meaningful conversations between James and his daughter, Jamie, about the overlooked history of the Korean diaspora in Mexico. Their shared passion for justice, education, and cultural preservation ultimately led to the creation of the organization.
