The Forgotten Koreans continues to grow through community partnerships, cultural preservation, education, and direct support for Korean descendants in Mexico. Below are key milestones that reflect our ongoing mission.

Initial Fundraising Drive
Raised over $12,305 in a single fundraising drive to help launch The Forgotten Korean’s operations and support Korean descendant communities in Mexico.

Official Incorporation
Successfully incorporated The Forgotten Koreans as a not-for-profit organization in the State of Illinois.

Building Bridges in Mérida, Mexico
The Forgotten Koreans conducted important meetings with community leaders in Mérida to build trust, learn about local needs, and strengthen long-term partnerships. These meetings included:

  • President Juan Duran, Yucatán Korean Descendants Association

  • Dolores Garcia, Director of the Korean Descendants Association

  • Genny Chans, Host of El Museo Conmemorativo de la Inmigración Coreana

Scholarship Essay Contest
Announced the first annual The Forgotten Koreans Scholarship Essay Contest for Yucatán Korean students, supporting education and cultural awareness among the next generation. We, then, proceeded to award scholarships to 3 of the recipients.

National Korea Day Sponsorship
Coordinated and sponsored the annual National Korea Day celebration in Mérida, Mexico, helping honor Korean heritage and strengthen cultural connection.

Diplomacy & Future Partnerships
Established contact with the Korean Consulate General Office in Mexico regarding future visits, community meetings, and potential meetings with the Mayor of Mérida.

Scholarship Essay Contest
Announced the second The Forgotten Koreans Scholarship Essay Contest for Yucatán Korean students, supporting education and cultural awareness among the next generation. We, then, proceeded to award scholarships to 4 of the recipients.
